An Ohio Police officer was fatally shot in an ambush while responding to a disturbance report late Saturday, officials said.
Euclid Police officers were sent to a suburban Cleveland home shortly before 10 p.m. in response to a disturbance.
“While police were investigating, a gunman ambushed an officer, striking him with gunfire,” police said.
The officer, who has yet to be identified, was rushed to an area hospital where he succumbed.
“Multiple law enforcement agencies” started a search for the suspect who remains at large.
The Euclid Police Department asked people to “keep the fallen officer, his family, loved ones, and our agency in your thoughts and prayers.”
Local media outlets said the slain officer was a military veteran and had joined the department less than two years ago.
“He was an amazing human being. Just a great heart. Had an incredible smile. The world’s a better place with him in it,” Euclid Police Chief Scott Meyer said.
