Houston news, Texas news.

The parents of a pair of twin infants were charged last week over their girls’ tragic deaths caused by both abuse and starvation.

“The allegations are alleged to be horrific,” Assistant District Attorney Appelbaum said.

“These two children were about six weeks old and appeared to suffer blunt force injuries, severely malnourished, and old and new injuries on both of the children.”

Angelina Belinda Calderon and Fernando Vega, both 21, were on Friday charged with causing serious bodily injury to a child over their twins’ deaths.

  • Vega told detectives that on October 4, he dropped Calderon off at work and returned home to find his daughters unresponsive.

Autopsies later revealed the girls were malnourished, dehydrated, and had multiple fractures; one of them suffered hemorrhaging of the brain and the spinal cord while the other had acute brain bleeding at the time of their deaths.

“I’m just really disappointed, it hurts – it really does break my heart,” Calderon’s aunt said. “They need to both be held accountable.”

“Because OK, even if I don’t think she would physically harm them like the babies weren’t even taken care of.”
