Five people, including two children, were found deceased inside a southwest Oklahoma City home Monday morning.

Police Sgt. Gary Knight said that all five victims suffered injuries consistent with homicide.

“This wasn’t a carbon monoxide situation or anything like that. These are five people who were killed,” Knight added.

Investigators later determined that what initially appeared like a “massacre” was actually a murder-suicide perpetrated by a family patriarch.

Jonathon Candy, 42, fatally shot his 39-year-old wife Lindsay Candy, and their three children aged 18, 14, and 12 before taking his own life.

“Investigators determined that sometime overnight the husband and father in the home, Jonathon Candy, became involved in an altercation with his wife, Lindsay,” Knight said.

“At some point, he armed himself with a gun, shot her multiple times, killing her. At that point, he systematically went through the home, shooting and killing their children.”

Knight revealed that at least one of the children was killed in his bed. It remains unknown why the surviving child was left unharmed.

“It’s unclear what made him want to go through the home killing the children, but make no mistake about it, what happened in that residence was nothing short of a massacre.”
