A young Chicago Police Officer was shot and killed overnight Saturday while returning to his home after finishing his shift, police announced Sunday.

The unidentified officer was still in uniform, though covering it with other clothing as is customary for off-duty officers when he was shot dead.

Superintendent Larry Snelling said the officer was shot multiple times at around 3 a.m. and was pronounced dead at an area hospital.
