An 8-year-old girl was gunned down in Chicago’s South Side late Saturday when a gang-related shooting broke out at a family gathering, police said.
The girl was shot in the head and died while ten other people survived with gunshot wounds including a one-year-old and an 8-year-old who were repeatedly shot and are currently in critical condition.
Deputy Chief Don Jerome said that the shooting occurred at around 9 p.m. at a crowd standing outside a family gathering.
“This was not a random act of violence. It was likely gang-related. The offenders’ actions, make no mistake, are horrific and unacceptable in our city,” Jerome said.
Witnesses reported seeing a black sedan approaching the crowd and firing shots into people while others described two possible shooters involved in the incident.
