Detroit news, Michigan news.

A Detroit woman was charged with murder this week after she admitted to killing an autistic, nonverbal toddler she babysat over the weekend.

Iesha Harris, 30, is accused of killing 3-year-old Harmoni Henderson after the child’s mother asked her to care for the girl overnight Sunday.

Instead, Harris locked Harmoni and her own daughter in a room and went to smoke marijuana with her friends for three hours.

The suspect told detectives that when she returned, she found out that Harmoni had vomited on herself and became enraged.

She admitted to pouring scalding hot water on the toddler’s head as she cleaned her up before smashing her head into the bathtub.

Harmoni’s mother called to check on her but was told that her child had fallen down the stairs and bumped her head.

  • “From my knowledge, it was just a fall down the stairs – that she just missed her step, and that’s all it was. She told me everything was OK,” the grieving woman said.

When the mother showed up at Harris’ home the following morning to pick up her child, she found her deceased in the bed.

“She was already dead from the moment that I got there. She was gone.”

Harris was reportedly a trusted family friend and had previously babysat Harmoni, the mother noted.

“I think she got frustrated with her and her own daughter and she slammed my baby’s head against the tub,” she said.

“I would never in one million years [think] she would do this to my baby. Even if you think you trust the person, you can’t.”
