A Texas toddler who was days shy of turning two years old was fatally struck while wandering alone in a parking lot, police in Texarkana said Thursday.
The driver involved in the crash called the police at around 2 p.m. to report that he hit a child in the parking lot of Magnolia Garden Apartments.
Police determined the child was wandering unsupervised in the area when he was hit.

The driver told officers he did not see the toddler before the fatal crash.
It remains unclear how the child wandered into the parking lot without being noticed by his relatives.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to this family,” the police department said on social media.
