Idaho authorities announced Thursday the arrest of a dangerous pair of suspects who fled after a coordinated attack at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center Wednesday.
Inmate Skylar Mease and accomplice Nicholas Umphenour were located in Twin Falls County at around 2 p.m. Thursday.
The Idaho State Police believe the two Aryan Knights gangsters may have killed two men in rural Idaho while on the run.
“We did find the shackles at the scene of one of the homicides, so that’s one of the ways we tied them together,” the ISP said.
Meade had just received treatment at Saint Alphonsus for self-inflicted wounds to his face and body and was being accompanied to the ambulance when Umphenour showed up and fired shots at IDOC officers.
Three corrections officers were injured, including one mistakenly shot by a Boise Police Department officer.
Boise Police Department Chief Ron Winegar said at a news conference that Mease and Umphenour may have planned the former’s escape when they were both incarcerated at an Idaho Maximum Security Institution.
“We believe that this was a coordinated attack, ambush on Department of Correction officers,” Winegar said.
“Certainly a planned endeavor to free him from custody.”
