A suspect is at large along with a dangerous inmate he helped out of custody after an overnight attack at a Boise, Idaho hospital Wednesday.
The suspect shot at correctional officers as they prepared to bring inmate Skylar Meade back to jail after he received treatment at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center.
Three correctional officers suffered gunshot wounds in the attack, including one that was shot by a responding officer.
“This brazen, violent, and apparently coordinated attack on Idaho Department of Corrections personnel, to facilitate an escape of a dangerous inmate, was carried out right in front of the Emergency department, where people come for medical help, often in the direst circumstances,” said Boise Police Chief Ron Winegar.
Hospital officials said in a statement that no patient or staff was harmed in the attack.
Meade was sentenced to 20 years behind bars in 2017. He and the suspect who helped him break out may be traveling in a gray four-door sedan with Idaho plates.
