A retired Virginia couple is feared dead after “copious amounts of blood” were found in their yacht that was stolen by three escaped inmates.
Ralph Hendry and Kathy Brandel were last seen sailing near Saint George’s Caribbean island when they vanished Sunday.
Local police linked their disappearance to the escape of three inmates from the Grenada jail.
Trevon Robertson, Ron Mitchell, and Atiba Stanislaus reportedly hijacked the yacht and killed the residents before traveling to St. Vincent.
The yacht was located 85 miles nautical away in St. Vincent with bloodstains and no sign of Hendry and Brandel.
“Copious volumes of blood were discovered in the master stateroom. Numerous personal belongings were also lost. Passports discovered onboard allowed police to contact the victims’ emergency contacts,” the Caribbean Security and Safety Net said in a report.
On Thursday, police announced the arrest of the three fugitives.
“Kathy and Ralph were seasoned sailors who lived on their beloved catamaran, Simplicity,” a GoFundMe page set up by a friend read.
“Their lives ended in unimaginable tragedy on Sunday, February 19th, off the shores of Grand Anse Beach, Grenada.”
“This heartbreaking tragedy has left not only the sailing community but also their families shattered.”
