The body of a missing 52-year-old woman was found stuffed in a bag in her Manhattan apartment Thursday.
Relatives of Nadia Vital grew worried after not hearing from her in several days, police said.
They showed up at her apartment on E. 31st Street near Third Avenue in Kips Bay and made a horrific discovery at around 4:30 p.m.
Superintendent Jean Pompee said that he allowed Vital’s brother and a group of concerned relatives into her apartment.
“When I opened the door, the dog was there [and] the dog was alone,” Pompee recalled.
“She wouldn’t have left the dog all alone.”
The group then started looking for Vital around the apartment.
“They found the bag in the closet. They looked in the bag and said it was a woman.” “They said, ‘You have to go, this is a crime scene.’”
Vital was pronounced dead at the scene. Her cause and manner of death remain unclear.
