Worker gets buried alive; dies under 8 feet of soil at Iowa construction site

An excavation worker died a tragic death Saturday after he got buried under nearly eight feet of soil, authorities said.

Emergency crews rushed to a construction site in the 3100 block of Lake Ridge Drive in Dubuque, Iowa just after 8:20 a.m. over reports of a trench collapse.

When they arrived, they found co-workers of the victim frantically trying to dig him out of several feet of soil.

    The victim’s body was recovered at 9:46 a.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

    Authorities declined to release the victim’s identity citing an ongoing investigation into the incident.
