Girl buried alive under sand after hole she& brother dig at Florida beach collapsed on them

A young girl died Tuesday evening after she was trapped in a sand hole she and her brother had dug at a Fort Lauderdale beach, police said.

The roughly 6-foot-deep hole collapsed at the two children, aged 5 and 7 years old, at around 3 p.m. Tuesday completely burying the girl.

The boy was buried up to his chest and was rescued by good Samaritans.

  • “It was an unfathomable accident,” Pompano Beach Fire Rescue Spokeswoman Sandra King said adding that the girl had no pulse when she was pulled out of the hole.

    “We were conducting life-saving techniques to try to bring her pulse back, and it never did recover, and she was pronounced dead at the hospital.”

    The boy was said to be in a stable condition at Broward Health Medical Center.
