Suspect, 20, arrested for fatally shooting 4 longtime friends outside Birmingham car wash

A young Alabama man was charged with murder over the fatal shootings of four longtime friends last month.

Police believe 20-year-old Lamarion Tykese Charlie was among several suspects when he opened fire at Talton Tait, 36; Cortez Ray, 32; Terrell Edwards, 38; and Kevin McGhee, 38 killing them on Feb. 16.

The four men were standing outside Tait’s home where he operated a car wash when they were targeted in the drive-by shooting.

  • Edwards and Ray died at the scene while Edwards’ cousin McGhee succumbed to gunshot wounds at UAB Hospital shortly later.

    Tait, a beloved father of four, ran after being struck before collapsing dead in a neighbor’s yard.

    His mother said he was called “Black Jesus” by neighbors for his kind acts towards them including running errands for the elderly, cutting grass on the block, and offering free car washes.

    “Everybody who met my child was touched by him and loved him. There was something special about him,” Jimone Griffin said.
