Columbia news, South Carolina news.

Despite her crushing loss to Donald Trump in the South Carolina primary, Nikki Haley promised her supporters that she would stay in the presidential race because she was “a woman of word.”

The Associated Press called the vote for Trump at 7 p.m. shortly after the polls closed in the Palmetto State.

Trump was leading Haley by around 20 points when she stepped onstage to address her supporters.

“There are huge numbers of voters in our Republican primaries who are saying they want an alternative,” she said.

Although Trump did not mention Haley in his victory speech, she did not miss to congratulate him in her address.

“I want to congratulate Donald Trump on his victory and I want to thank the people of South Carolina for using the power of your voice,” she said.

“No matter the results, I love the people of our state. I love what we accomplished together and I love how we’re united during our worst challenges and tragedies.”
