An Indiana mother who claimed she unintentionally suffocated her infant while breastfeeding her late last year is now facing homicide charges.
Aaliyah M. Lykins was arrested last week on counts of reckless homicide and neglect of a dependent.
The mother’s 2-week-old daughter was found in cardiac arrest with “no signs of respiration” on October 9, 2023.
She was declared dead at a hospital. Lykins reportedly invoked a similar incident to an EMS worker at the scene.
“Oh no, I did it again,” she reportedly said referring to the Oct. 30, 2020 death of another infant whom she accidentally suffocated while co-sleeping.
“Aaliyah Lykins was fully aware of the danger of co-sleeping with her infant…as she had a prior born child die while co-sleeping,” the affidavit read.
