An Indiana teen was tragically killed Friday morning after being struck by a train in South Bend, police said.
First responders and officers rushed to the crash scene in the area of Lincoln Way East and Robinson Street at around 8:45 a.m. Friday.
The 16-year-old pedestrian killed in the tragic crash was later identified as Joaquin Edwards, a junior at Adams High School.
“Our hearts go out to the family and friends as they face this tremendous loss as well as to the entire community as we each grapple with this tragedy,” Superintendent Dr. Todd Cummings said in a letter to the students’ families.
“We are ready to support them during this difficult time.”
Norfolk Southern will be investigating the accident.
