A Campton, California man was mauled to death by 13 pitbulls while he fed them in an outdoor kennel outside his home.
A friend of the deceased found his body and dogs, including eight puppies, roaming freely in the yard on Friday.
Police suspect the 35-year-old man was breeding the dogs that got involved in a fight before attacking their owner.
“He was feeding the dogs at which point maybe there was an altercation between some of them dogs and [they] ultimately attacked and mauled the victim,” LASD Homicide Bureau Michael Gomez said.
Animal control assisted police in gathering the dogs before officers could reach the owner’s body.
“Preliminary information suggests that the deceased individual was involved in breeding and selling pit bulls,” animal control officials said.
