Florida man, 71, shoots estranged girlfriend dead as she ran to neighbor’s home before taking own life

An elderly Florida man took his own life late Friday moments after he killed his ex-girlfriend as she ran to a neighbor’s house seeking help.

Police said 71-year-old Francis Scoza shot 61-year-old Audrey Petersen multiple times outside her home in the 2300 block of Hillcreek Circle East in the Countryside area of Clearwater.

The suspect had broken into his victim’s home at around 8 p.m. forcing entry to the house and firing shots at the woman.

    Scoza then turned the gun on himself and ended his life in the same yard.

    Investigators deemed the incident a murder-suicide. Scoza and Peterson were reportedly in a long-term relationship that ended recently.
