An off-duty Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputy died late Saturday in a major collision in Midtown, the department announced Sunday.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez posted on X that a deputy was critically injured in the crash at around 9:45 p.m. Saturday.
A witness reported the deputy appeared to lose control of his vehicle before crashing on Travis near Richmond Avenue.

Just after midnight, the sheriff announced the grim news of the deputy’s passing.
“So sad to report that our deputy has passed away. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and colleagues,”
“He will be deeply missed, but never forgotten,” Gonzalez wrote.
