A toddler is dead and his mother fighting for her life after they were shot at a Maryland apartment complex Thursday evening.
The fatal shooting took place shortly after 5:30 p.m. Thursday near the Bedford Station Apartments in Langley Park, Police in Prince George’s County said.
Officers responding to reports of gunshots in the area found the injured mother and her 3-year-old son who was pronounced dead at Children’s National Hospital.
“That baby did nothing to anyone,” Assistant Police Chief Vernon Hale III said. “Did not deserve to die because someone wants to come out here and play with guns.”
“Bullets come down and have real consequences. I can only pray they weren’t trying to kill a child. A child is dead, a mother shot! That baby won’t get to be a future PG police officer or live his best life,”
A reward of $25,000 was announced as detectives seek information that led to an arrest in the case.
