2 people arrested after 55 dogs found starving; 15 others deceased at Missouri property

Authorities in Stone County, Missouri have arrested two suspects after rescuing 55 dogs and discovering the remains of 15 others at a property earlier this month.

Deputies responded to calls from “concerned residents” about abused animals at a home on Camp Clark Hill Road in Galena on January 19.

“When the deputy arrived at the residence, there were multiple animals in distress,” the SCSO said.

  • “Approximately 55 dogs were in pens, tied to trees, or tied to shelters. Most of these dogs had no access to food or water. Upon closer inspection, they located multiple animals, which were deceased and were still in their shelter on a chain next to a tree or located in a burn pile.”

    Remains of other dead animals including five goats, a cat, and two birds were also found at the property.

    John Griffiths, 34, and 30-year-old Jessica Jean Johnson were arrested and each charged with 28 counts of animal abuse.
