A double murder suspect who spent more than two months on the lam was arrested Tuesday afternoon in an unsuspected turn of events.
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said his deputies located 26-year-old Enrique Martinez walking on a sidewalk near Cooley Road.
Martinez was named the main suspect in the November death of Edil Rodriguez before being accused of killing Sierra Hernandez earlier this month.
“He was pretty good at avoiding us for a period of time, but our deputies and detectives never gave up,” Judd said.
Martinez tried to escape after spotting deputies and ran off into a wooded area; he soon gave up and came out of his hideout.
“Well that’s a pretty easy choice when you’re surrounded by 100 deputy sheriffs with guns,” the sheriff added.
