Authorities in Texas warned youngsters from an unsettling TikTok challenge that sees them knocking on residents’ doors causing both “physical and emotional distress for residents of all ages.”
The Door Knock challenge went viral on social media platforms even though it encourages teens to kick on doors in the middle of the night just to startle residents.
The Friendswood Police Department posted the warning on Facebook along with doorbell camera videos showing young males knocking on the unsuspecting residents’ front doors.
“I would tell them stop it before they get hurt, or they hurt somebody. Please don’t do this. It’s wrong. It’s very wrong,” a 77-year-old victim of the challenge said.
“It was scary. It was frightening. It was terrifying.”
According to Fort Bend County Constable Precinct 3 Chief Deputy Jimmy Evans, the challenge caused damage and could therefore be considered criminal.
“This is a very dangerous game, very dangerous game. I’m afraid a homeowner may think someone is trying to burglarize their residence and some innocent kid can get shot or killed.”
Police asked victims of the kicking and banging to come forward especially those with video of the alleged acts.
