Three homeless were involved in a brutal fight at an encampment area in San Diego before two of them stabbed the third to death.
Surveillance footage from a nearby strip mall caught the moment the deadly fight started between two homeless men before another joined in.
The victim was body-slammed to the ground and stabbed to death by the two attackers.
Officers found the unidentified man with “several puncture marks.”
Another man suffered critical wounds in the fight, police said.
29-year-old Christian Mejia was arrested and charged with murder late Friday.
San Diego is struggling with a mounting crisis of homelessness that led city officials to open two “safe-sleeping” areas in a few weeks later summer.
“We are bringing forward a comprehensive shelter strategy with detailed proposals for the short, medium, and long terms that include expanded shelter, more safe parking, and safe sleeping offerings,” Mayor Todd Gloria said in June.
