Oklahoma City news, Oklahoma news.

Several earthquakes hit Oklahoma City late Friday to early Saturday including at least two of 4.4 magnitudes, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The series of tremors started with a 3.2 magnitude quake in Arcadia at 9:37 p.m. Friday local time.

Approximately 10 minutes later, a 4.4 magnitude quake hit the area again, about four miles west of the first earthquake’s epicenter.

Two smaller quakes of 2.7 and 2.5 magnitude followed over the night. Other earthquakes were recorded Saturday morning including a 2.6 magnitude.

The USGS says earthquakes of 4.9 magnitude and less only cause disturbances and are felt by people indoors. No damages or injuries were reported in connection to the recent earthquakes.

The Oklahoma Geological Survey (OGS) reported “strong shaking in the immediate area and across Oklahoma City” in a statement.

“Whereas most aftershocks are smaller than the mainshock, a very small fraction of aftershocks result in a larger earthquake than the main event,” the OGS said.

“The seismic hazard remains high in the area. Citizens should secure valuables that might shake during possible strong aftershocks and practice Drop, Cover, and Hold On in the event of damaging events.”
