Inmate dies at trouble-plagued Fulton County Jail

An inmate was found unresponsive inside his cell at the embattled Fulton County Jail Wednesday.

A correction officer discovered 36-year-old Michael Anthony Holland unresponsive in his cell and notified jail staff.

Despite attempts to save Holland’s life, he was declared dead at Grady Memorial Hospital.

    Holland was detained in East Point on May 4 on charges including aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer and willful obstruction of law enforcement officers by the use of threats or violence.

    He was being held on a $55,000 bond at the troubled jail that is being investigated for poor conditions and violence.

    Last year, a deceased inmate’s body was found covered in bugs at the Fulton County detention facility prompting a civil rights investigation.
