Passenger’s body found at Salt Lake City airport after victim climbed into plane engine

Salt Lake City authorities are investigating the death of a man whose body was found inside a plane engine on New Year’s Day.

Police said the 30-year-old victim had “accessed an airport de-icing pad and entered an aircraft’s engine intake cowling.”

A store manager inside the airport called the police at 9:52 p.m. Monday to report a “disturbance involving a passenger on the secured side of the terminal.”

    His body was later discovered inside “a wing-mounted engine of an occupied commercial aircraft bound for San Francisco”.

    Officers and employees removed the man’s body through the cowling and tried life-saving measures.

    An investigation into the man’s death involves the SLCPD, the Federal Aviation Administration, the National Transportation Safety Board, and the Transportation Security Administration.
