Inmate takes own life at Allegheny County jail; leaves note to family

Authorities in Allegheny County are investigating the Thursday death of an inmate as a possible suicide.

The 41-year-old man was found unresponsive in his cell at the Allegheny County Jail at around 5:20 a.m. by a corrections officer.

Medical staff was immediately called and life-saving measures were provided to the dying prisoner.

  • City paramedics took over the efforts once at the scene, however, the inmate was declared dead shortly later at 5:52 a.m.

    Jail officials said no evidence of foul play was found at the scene.

    The inmate did leave behind a note to his family which investigators are considering a suicide note.

    County Police and jail administration are investigating the incident.
