Utah man with history of child abuse kills toddler, badly wounds twin sister

A Utah man with a history of child abuse was charged Friday with the murder of a 2-year-old boy.

Jonathan Allen Dunn was arrested in connection to the Thursday death of the toddler and assault of the boy's twin sister.

Dunn, 36, told officers he had been babysitting the twins and admitted to punching the kids in the sides, chest, and back and pinching them into a door frame on Wednesday.

  • He reportedly told detectives that “he was hitting them harder than he should have” before giving them Tylenol, cough and sleep aid medicine.

    Dunn told cops he gave the boy more cough medicine Thursday morning as he was wheezing. The child eventually stopped breathing.

    Court records revealed that both children had bruising covering their bodies. The girl was treated for a brain bleed.

    In 2017, Dunn was sentenced to one to 15 years for breaking a child’s arm. He was released from jail in 2019 and remained on parole until 2021.
