Woman walking at New Bedford park finds deceased infant in plastic bag

Authorities in Massachusetts are seeking the public’s help as they investigate a gruesome discovery of a decomposing baby at a waterfront park in New Bedford.

Bristol County officials revealed that the baby boy was likely deceased for one to four weeks before he was found dead at Fort Taber Park on Dec. 9.

The State’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has yet to determine a cause and manner of death for “Baby Doe.”

  • Police were called to the park on Dec. 9 at around 12:40 p.m. after a woman walking along a park with her niece found a blanket covering a plastic bag near a thicket of bushes.

    Inside the plastic bag, the woman could see a decomposing body. She then yelled out to two male passersby walking a dog and they called 911.

    The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office is asking anyone with information to call New Bedford Police at 508-991-6300 or the BCSP Detective Unit at 508-961-1901.
