Authorities in Indianapolis are investigating the death of a 9-month-old baby earlier this month.

Ana Perez-Hernandez died on Dec. 11 from severe head trauma including brain bleed, brain swelling, and swelling in the neck’s ligaments.

She was brought to the hospital on Dec. 6 by her 36-year-old mother, Ingris Marleni-Hernandez.

The woman told detectives that she left the baby alone for a few seconds to make a coffee when she heard her crying.

“Ingris reported that she picked up Ana and Ana began shaking her arms as though she were having a seizure,” a probable cause affidavit read. “EMS was then contacted.”

However, investigators were not convinced of the mother’s story suggesting the baby “has experienced abusive head trauma and that the explanation provided by Ingris is not a sufficient cause or mechanism to explain Ana’s injuries,”

“The mechanism that caused Ana’s injury would be violent and forceful and her injury and change in presentation would have been sudden and acute.”

Marleni-Hernandez was charged with neglect of a dependent causing death and aggravated battery.
