Person struck, killed by train at NYC’s Astor Place station just before evening rush hour

Authorities in New York City said a person was fatally struck by a subway train at the city’s Astor Place station just before the evening rush hour.

The victim who was not identified got pinned underneath the train and was declared dead at the scene shortly after 5 p.m.

Firefighters and police rushed to the scene trying to recover the victim’s body, halting the busy 4/5/6 subway line for at least an hour.

    Riders took to social media complaining about the disruption that came during rush hour.

    “The rush hour trains are s***! There was a 7 min wait for the uptown 6 at 23rd street,” one wrote.

    Another rider added: “I waited 15 mins on a stationary train for them to move it one stop and then tell us the train is turning around.”
