Employee won’t face charges after fatally shooting robber at Dollar General

A Memphis store employee won’t be facing charges after he allegedly shot and killed a robber last week, the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office announced.

On November 28, at around 10:30 a.m., Robert Canada and another suspect entered a Dollar General on Winchester Road and robbed the female store clerk at gunpoint.

  • Another employee witnessed the robbery and fired at Canada, striking him in the upper back. The robber died at a hospital.

    “After reviewing the footage and (the employee’s) statement, the DA’s Office determined that (the employee’s) actions were justified, as he was defending himself and others,” the DA’s office statement read.

    The shooter had no criminal history while Canada had five prior felonies.
