A Tucson, Arizona girl was fatally injured at school Friday after a large metal gate fell on her, the Pima County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies found the 9-year-old girl with severe and traumatic injuries when they responded to the scene at Centennial Elementary School at around 2:20 p.m.
“Life-saving measures were administered until Northwest Fire Department personnel arrived on scene and took over,” the department said in a statement.
The girl succumbed to her injuries at a hospital.
“The initial investigation revealed that the juvenile was helping close a large metal gate when the gate disconnected from its support, falling on the juvenile.”
The child’s identity was not released. Her school is in Flowing Wells Unified School District, officials revealed.
