A Chicago firefighter lost his life Monday after he fell through a skylight shaft and became trapped while battling flames.
The fallen firefighter was identified as 39-year-old Andrew Price, a 14-year veteran of the department.
Price was working on the roof of a four-story building in the Lincoln neighborhood when he became trapped in a home’s pantry space.
“It’s traumatizing to think that at some point we may have to go back and understand that that’s where someone lost their life,” a neighbor said.
“I do thank that firefighter for being so selfless to try and save us.”
Fellow firefighters located Price and demolished a wall to reach him. He died shortly later at a local hospital.
Price’s passing marks the fourth death of a firefighter in the line of duty this year.
