6 killed, 2 wounded in horror crash at downtown Houston intersection

Six people were killed and two others are clinging to life after a horrific crash at a downtown Houston intersection Saturday.

Authorities said at around 2 a.m., a speeding driver traveling southbound on Fannin ran the red light and slammed into an SUV traveling eastbound on Pierce.

The impact sent the SUV flipping, investigators said. Four people died at the scene while two others passed away at the hospital.

    Police said the deceased were five men and a woman and included the speeding driver and a homeless man sleeping near the crash site.

    “Literally, it sounded like two trains crashing together,” an eyewitness who was also sleeping nearby said. “I can still hear the sound in my head. It’s nerve-wracking.”

    “I was right next to him [the homeless victim]. I just had something in my gut telling me to get up, and I got up. But it could have been me.”
