RI father accidentally shoots 4-year-old son in head

A Rhode Island father was arrested Tuesday after he accidentally discharged a shot while handling a loaded gun striking his 4-year-old son’s head.

The boy underwent emergency surgery and is listed in critical condition after 33-year-old Michael Jones accidentally shot him at around 10 a.m. Tuesday inside their Queen Street home in Cranston.

    Jones was holding his wounded son when authorities arrived. He reportedly told detectives that he accidentally fired a round while handling a 9mm handgun and the bullet pierced through the wall before hitting his son who was in another room.

    Police said that Jones was prohibited from owning a firearm due to a 2022 felony assault conviction.
