An Oregon couple working for Nike HQ died in a crash earlier this week while on a cycling trip in Napa Valley, California.

Authorities said that Christian and Michelle Deaton, aged 52 and 48 respectively, were riding their bikes on Silverado Trail Tuesday morning when a flatbed truck driver tried to pass them.

The truck was carrying a lumber that fell onto the road hitting the couple biking on the right side.

“To see two people lose their lives in this manner is really tragic and unsettling,” said Kara Vernor from the Napa County Bicycle Coalition.

“Silverado trail is on the high-injury network. So, data does show that there are more severe and fatal collisions on that road than many of the other roads in the county.”
