Two people were confirmed dead after a freak accident on a Washington interstate early Thursday.
The victims, an 18-year-old and a 55-year-old man, were among eight passengers of a van traveling on Interstate 5 near Lakewood.

A loose tire went through the van’s windshield striking multiple people inside the vehicle. Two victims died from their injuries and a third was taken to a hospital.
“I am saddened to announce that as a result of the crash, two people have died,” Washington State Patrol Trooper John Dattilo said.
Investigators suggested that the tire may have come off another vehicle on the interstate or popped up following a crash.
