Long Island school mourns loss of 2 teachers killed in crash on way to Pennsylvania event

Students and staff at a Long Island high school are in mourning after a horrific bus crash claimed the lives of two teachers on Thursday.

Five students were left in critical condition after one of six buses overturned off I-84 in upstate New York as the convoy headed to a marching band event in Pennsylvania.

  • Band director Gina Pellettiere, 43, and the "grandmother of the band" Beatrice Ferrari, 77, were killed in the crash. The two victims were described as devoted Farmingdale High School teachers.

    “What’s going to become of our band?” wondered a student.

    “It’s been such a big part of my high school career. For our director not to be here anymore, it’s never something I would expect.”
