A Decatur woman was arrested amid accusations she placed her newborn girl into a trash container at a local convenience store.
36-year-old Cindy Nicole Crow was busted at her home on Wednesday for abuse of a corpse charge.
Officers were called to perform a welfare check on the woman who had given birth recently on Monday.
“As the investigation progressed, evidence was obtained that confirmed Crow had been pregnant as early as February 2023 and had recently given birth,” police said.
“However, her newborn baby was unaccounted for.”
Detectives received information about the child being dumped into a trash container at the Wally World Mini Mart.
They searched the dumpster and found the remains of a baby in a trash bag beneath other large bags of trash.
The Alabama Department of Forensic Science is set to perform an autopsy to determine the baby’s cause of death.
