A North Carolina father is behind bars facing first-degree murder after he was accused of fatally hurting his newborn while still at a Raleigh hospital on October 6.
Noah Benjamin Bliss, 22, was reportedly watching 3-week-old Gunner and an older child in a room at WakeMed when he allegedly shook the infant causing him a brain bleed and swelling.
The baby’s mother, Savannah Bliss, said that she was on another floor visiting Gunner’s twin sister in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
She said the twins were born prematurely on Sept. 15 and were never brought home as the family temporarily at WakeMed’s Heart Center Inn. so they could receive care.
“I want justice for my son. I trusted my husband to watch Gunner while I was taking care of his sister in the ICU. He was the sweetest boy with the most beautiful blue eyes…he was the best baby and for him to be taken so soon is so wrong,” she said.
Savannah was told that Gunner had no external wounds or fractured bones but he was left deprived of oxygen due to head trauma caused by his father’s shaking.
“He seemed happy…like a proud father. I never thought this would have happened…I trusted him, that was his daddy…he loved his babies.”
