Authorities in New Mexico said that the body of a newborn was found inside a trash can at a Hobbs hospital this week.
The deceased baby was found in a room that was previously occupied by a 16-year-old girl.
The teen showed up with her mother at the Covenant Health Hobbs Hospital to receive treatment for an undisclosed health issue.

Once she left, staff found the newborn’s body inside a trash can in the bathroom area of the room.
Investigators are now working to determine whether the newborn was alive at birth. The body was sent to Albuquerque for an autopsy.
It remains unclear whether the teen was questioned or arrested over the incident.
