A Georgia inmate who escaped custody over the weekend is captured and his parents are also facing charges in connection to his getaway.
Carlton Bradford Gillis, 37, was arrested Thursday days after he overpowered a guard and fled from an Albany hospital.
The inmate’s mother, 63-year-old Trudy Sellars, and stepfather, 47-year-old Randy Williams, surrendered to authorities over accusations they aided in the escape.
Sellars claimed that Gillis called for them to pick him up saying that he was released from the hospital and then kept her against her will inside the vehicle during the police chase.
Williams was driving the car before officers started chasing Gillis. The inmate climbed behind the wheel and took off driving into oncoming traffic.
Police temporarily gave up on the dangerous pursuit; Gillis fled into the woods leaving his mother inside the car.
Gillis, who was initially facing charges of burglary, interference with government property, and obstruction of an officer, was hit with additional counts of kidnapping, forcible robbery, fleeing officers, and reckless driving.
