Authorities in Massachusetts are looking for the assailant who beat a New England Patriots ticket holder to death at Gillette Stadium late Sunday.
Dale Mooney, 53, was killed in the stands of the stadium in the 300-tier segment of the arena at around 11 p.m., police in Norfolk County said.
Witnesses reported that Mooney was punched multiple times by a Miami Dolphins fan after a scuffle broke out.
“They started tussling around for a few minutes,” one said. “At one point another Dolphins fan walked over.”
“He punched him three times, and the man just went out. It was pretty hard to watch.”
The attack was witnessed by many people who gave matching statements to police. The father-of-two “crumbled” to the ground from the severe beating.
Mooney’s wife described him as a dedicated Patriots season ticket holder for three decades with the “patience of a saint.”
“I don’t know what happened…it takes a lot to get him mad,” she said.
“I don’t understand why people have to go to that extreme. Why can’t it just be fun? That’s all it’s supposed to be, just a fun family event.”
