Authorities in Los Angeles and Palmdale are actively looking for the “coward” gunman who fatally struck a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy while behind the wheel of his patrol car Saturday evening.
Deputy Ryan Clinkunbroomer, 30, was found unconscious with a gunshot wound near the Sierra Highway and Avenue Q intersection in Palmdale.
“Despite the medical staff’s best efforts to save our deputy’s life, regrettably he succumbed to his injuries,” said Sheriff Robert Luna.
Investigators believe that the shooting was “targeted” and are looking for surveillance footage from the scene.
The fallen deputy joined the Palmdale station in the summer of 2018. Sheriff Luna said that his father and grandfather were deputies of the sheriff’s department before him.
“We’re going to catch the person who did this,” he said. “Because every resource that the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has to bear is going after you.”
Palmdale Mayor Laura Bettencourt said in a press conference that the community is mourning Clinkunbroomer ‘s loss.
“The person that did this is a coward and they will be caught.”
