Police in Star, Idaho, shot and killed a suicidal man who was holding a handgun in a field.
41-year-old Christopher Huffman was reportedly threatening to harm himself and moving it around his head when he encountered officers at around 5:30 p.m.
Huffman refused to drop the gun and ignored police’s commands before firing a shot and falling to the ground.
Officers rushed to help Huffman who was alive, holding the gun and yelling. At that moment, an officer fired at Huffman and he was taken into custody.
The man died at around 8 p.m. at an area hospital from a gunshot wound to the chest.
Garden City authorities said that the involved officer was placed on standard administrative leave as the investigation continues.
