A Florida infant died over the weekend from gunshot wounds at a drug-filled home, Flagler County officials said.
Deputies responded to reports of a shooting in Palm Coast late Sunday night and found an unresponsive 18-month-old girl at the scene.
Despite life-saving measures provided at the scene, the child was declared dead shortly after arriving at AdventHealth Palm Coast Hospital.
“This was a life cut too short and we know that God now has an angel,” Sheriff Rick Stanly said at a press conference.
“We extend our deepest sympathy to the parents and the family.”
Stanly said that at the time of the police response, there were eight people inside the home including the baby’s mother.
He added that 420 grams of marijuana and 11 grams of a “white powdery substance” that may be “either cocaine or heroin” were seized at the home.
A person of interest, 21-year-old CJ Nelson Jr., was arrested on gun-related charges. He has yet to be charged with the baby’s death.
