A Lake City, Florida girl is dead after she was struck by stray bullets while sitting on a couch inside her home late Thursday.
Authorities said that the tragic incident unfolded around 9 p.m. when shots were fired into the victim’s home on Northwest Long Street.
The child was struck by stray bullets while on the couch. She later succumbed to her injuries despite life-saving measures provided at the scene.
Residents of the neighborhood described the girl’s family as “good people” expressing their shock over the incident.
“I don’t like to hear about a child have lost their life, you know,” neighbor Evelyn Leggett said.
“I had to go. I just felt devastated, I feel for the parents and the grandmother.”
Leggett’s husband added that there had been multiple shootings in the neighborhood recently, especially at night.
“We need to stop the violence. Killing people ain’t going to stop what’s going on in the world,” James Leggett said.
